According to preliminary data from IDC, Apple achieved the highest year-over-year growth in global PC shipments in the second quarter of 2025 among the leading five vendors, despite stagnant performance in the U.S. market.
In the second quarter, Apple shipped 6.2 million Macs worldwide, representing a 21.4% increase from 5.1 million units in the same quarter last year. This performance surpassed that of all other major PC manufacturers. Additionally, Apple’s global market share climbed from 8.0% in the second quarter of 2024 to 9.1% in the most recent quarter, although it held onto its fourth-place ranking behind Lenovo, HP, and Dell in terms of overall volume.
The overall PC market saw a 6.5% increase year-over-year, totaling 68.4 million units, marking another quarter of recovery following the disruptions caused by the pandemic and supply chain issues. Lenovo led the sector with 17 million shipments, reflecting a 15.2% rise compared to last year, while HP followed with 14.1 million units and Dell reported 9.8 million. Notably, Dell was the only company among the top five to experience a decline, decreasing by 3.0% compared to the same quarter in 2024.
IDC attributed a significant portion of Apple’s growth to its performance outside the United States, where shipments rose by 9% year-over-year. In stark contrast, the U.S. PC market showed no growth during this quarter. IDC suggested that this stagnation may be linked to an inventory buildup and preparations for impending tariff hikes. Consequently, the shipments recorded in the second quarter might reflect strategic initiatives by Apple and its retail partners to accelerate deliveries in the U.S. before potential cost increases take effect.
Apple’s impressive 21.4% growth in shipments during the second quarter followed a robust 14.1% increase in the first quarter of 2025, highlighting a trend of strong performance that stands out against the slower growth seen among other major vendors this year.Apple
